About the Okumidori Cultivar

Okumidori is one of Japan's most respected tea cultivars, prized for its naturally smooth, low-bitterness character. The name translates to "deep green", a reference to the vivid colour of its leaves after shading.

Developed as a cross between Yabukita and a native Shizuoka variety, Okumidori was bred for balance. It produces matcha with a rich, creamy body and gentle umami that doesn't overwhelm. Where some cultivars lean heavily into sweetness or astringency, Okumidori sits right in the middle making it an excellent starting point for anyone exploring single origin matcha.

Grown in Kagoshima's volcanic soil, our Okumidori picks up mineral depth and a distinctive nutty, buttery quality you won't find in blended matcha. First flush leaves, harvested in April, ensure peak amino acid content and minimal bitterness.
