About the Saemidori Cultivar

Saemidori is considered one of the most premium cultivars in Japanese tea. The name means "clear green," and one sip tells you why. The flavour is remarkably clean, with a depth of umami that lingers long after the last sip.

A cross between Yabukita and Asatsuyu, Saemidori was developed in Kagoshima Prefecture itself, making it perfectly adapted to the region's subtropical climate and volcanic soil. It's known among tea professionals for its intense sweetness and virtually zero bitterness, qualities that make it a favourite for ceremonial preparation.

Our Saemidori is harvested in April during the first flush, when amino acid levels are at their highest. The result is a velvety, full-bodied matcha with jasmine-like floral notes and deep umami richness that sets it apart from anything blended.
